The historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brussels, IL – founded in 1863 – was destroyed by a devastating fire Christmas Eve 2011. Only the charred masonry walls remained. HBD was hired to complete the extensive renovation to bring this beautiful church back to life. Stained glass windows from the former St. Bonaface Church were donated and repurposed throughout, requiring modifications to every window. All liturgical appointments and millwork were lost but replicated from pictures. The altar, statuaries, pews, organ, steeple, bells, roof, flooring and all finishes were replaced. A new structural floor was added in the sanctuary which suspends over the basement.
